Air Compressors

The most commonly asked question when shopping for an air compressor is: Which air compressor will suit my needs? The answer is really quite simple. Its no longer the higher horse power (HP) produces a better air compressor. Also, pounds per square inch (PSI) actually means very little now a days as most air tools require 90 PSI to operate. The vast majority of air compressors produce at least 90 PSI. So if you are purchasing an air compressor just because its puts out 150 PSI your kind of defeating the purpose as the extra PSI really does nothing.

Compressor Air Flow is what to look for

Your air tools require the flow of air to operate. Do you want a compressor thats produces a light breeze or hurricane force winds?
There are air tools that require more air flow than others. Staplers and air nailers require very little air. Other tools such as sanders need gale force winds.
In other words when purchasing a new or used air compressor the main factor should be how fast the air comes out of the compressor. This air flow is measured in Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM). The more air flow the more power you will have. You should check your air tools for CFM requirements and purchase a air compressor that will satisfy the tools need for air. Pick out the most powerful air tool in your shop or garage and select the air compressor that exceeds the CFM for that tool.
