Will a Storage Shed Improve the Resale Value of Your Home?

August 20th, 2008

If you spend money on an storage shed whether it be metal or wood framed, will your storage shed add to the resale value of your home? This is a question that many people ask themselves when adding a out building. Some people take their storage buildings with them when they sell their home if possible, especially if the home your moving into has little to no storage. So does it add value to the home if you leave it?
I for one would say definitely yes. I had sold a fairly updated home that was built in the 30’s. I had added a double car garage that was attached to a 20×30 shop. The person that finally bought the home was not really interested in the homeĀ  itself he was interested in the awesome storage capabilities.

Other advantages

If your storage shed is fairly large that also could be used as a garage, this is an advantage for resell. If your home does not have a garage attached or next to the home a person could turn the large storage shed into a garage. Otherwise this would be a great place to store seasonal lawn equipment, gardening supplies, bicycles, recreational vehicles and more. Potential home buyers like the fact that they have a place to store the seasonal items and protected from the elements.

There are unlimited uses for an outdoor storage shed. A storage shed could be used as a workshop for woodworking projects.

There is a wide range of prices for storage sheds. Metal shed are typically the least expensive but I would recommend a stick built storage shed. If you are fairly handy a storage shed can be built yourself in a couple weekends. This is also a great way to save money. You can build a storage shed for about half the price of a pre-built shed. Here are some ideas for storage shed plans .

Because your outdoor storage shed adds to the resale value of your home, that is proof that investing in a storage shed is definitely worth the money.
