Toyota Prius Good and Bad

May 19th, 2008

We recently purchased a Toyota Prius about 6 months ago. So far I have been very happy with the car.Good
1. Save tons of money on fuel. 40-45 miles to gallon on average. Goes up to 50 during summer months and down to 35-40 during winter months.
2. Definitely changes driving habits. I previously owned a Ford Expedition and it was peddle to the metal. With the prius on board fuel consumption readout you can’t help but want to see how good of mileage you can get by the way you drive. I don’t drive 75 down the freeway any longer.
3. Actually has ample room for 4 adults.
4. Tracks very well in wet freeway conditions. Don’t have any problems with hydroplaning so far.

Bad
1. Annoying back up beeper that is just heard inside the car. There is a way to shut this off but havn’t looked into it yet.
2. We recently drove through a snow storm driving home. We live on a slight incline (road). As soon as the tires started loosing tractions the engine shuts down. Its suppose to be a safety feature but being stuck in the middle of the road doesn’t sound very safe to me. My parents also own a prius and live on a fairly steep incline and ended up pushing the car up the hill because of the shut down. I think this should be a recall.

Overall I am very happy with the Prius. But am glad I don’t live in the snow belt!!
